Web sites with Content Management Systems (CMS)
A content management system is a series of web tools that allows a company or individual to update the web site themselves. We developed our CMS to allow our sports club clients to update their news stories and fixtures by themselves. Digital Ink decided to give non-sports clients the same powerful CMS tools to it's non-sports clients.
Traditionally web designers have charged an hourly rate to update or add copy to web sites.
Many companies end up having several web sites built for them. The first, is often built by an employee or friend, is done at low cost and after the initial euphoria of seeing the company's name on the Internet has died down, starts to look a lit bit sad when compared with the quality of design expected in the company's printed brochures.
After a period of time and some response from the first site proving the Internet CAN actually bring in sales leads, the marketing department decides to take over and do the thing "properly". Professional web designers are contacted and shown what needs to be done. They go off and several weeks or months later produce the new web site. Staff and products come and go, and a few months down stream someone realizes that the site is looking out of date. Marketing contact the web designers and find that it is going to cost them every time the site is updated. If the web designers are really busy doing new sites, they might put a low priority on minor updates. The costs and delays associated with this problem mean that the site does not change very often and visitors stop returning when they see nothing has changed.
Digital Ink specializes in building dynamic web sites where the client controls virtually all content. Once the site is designed the client's staff can update the site using a simple web browser over an Internet connection. News, products, prices, contact details, virtually every section of a web site can be updated with no programming knowledge or technical skills. What's more, pictures can be uploaded from your local hard drive to the web page.
We can supply news tickertapes that show your latest news - you control the content. So your web site can be changed at a whim - as many times a day or a week as you like. More change, more information means more customers.
